Why Coming Home to Pampanga is a Privilege

Image
When Mount Pinatubo had its deadly eruption in 1991, San Fernando City in Pampanga painfully saw hundreds of families leave home to look for a safer home. Decades after, the seemingly ghost city founds its way to become one of the most desired addresses not just for those who found fortune in north and central Luzon but also to busy Metro Manila families wanting a home full of unlimited adventures, authentic dining experience, and select privileges.  Thanks to the colorful lanterns that were hung in the corners of the city weeks after the disaster that reminded the families that the San Fernando, no matter how cursed it may appear, still is a perfect home.  This story has been portrayed in an episode of ABS-CBN drama show, Maalaala Mo Kaya about Mr. Rolando Quiambao who pioneered lighting of grand lanterns in Pampanga to share hope. Mr. Quimabao’s store, RolRens Lantern in San Fernando is one stop no one should miss when visiting the city as it retells the ...

Image
There are only quite few premier theater production companies in the Philippines consistently displaying the best plays and musicals from both Broadway and West End. My theatrical experiences both as patron and press has always been amazement and astonishment with 9 Works Theatrical. Their latest theater installment on its ninth year, Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! was making headlines when they transformed and transcended the classic repertoire of APO for the millenials to recognize and for the oldies to reminisce, what really take shape and take place during the '70s? Eto Na! Musikal nAPO! is a brand new original Filipino musical production of 9 Works Theatrical, the theater for all season and Globe Live, the company's original production arm known for providing Filipino access through world-class entertainment, co-presented by FOXlife and FRONTROW, with music by Danny Javier, Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo, musical arrangements and orchestrations by Daniel Bartolome and...

Image
Written to be performed devoid of props, costume changes, or scene transitions, Lungs MNL will have its Philippine premiere making ecological decisions and accidental complications at the Power MAC Center Spotlight, Circuit Makati from September 22 to October 7, 2018. “The script challenges the director and creative team to think outside of the box. It says it outright that it has to be really simple,” says director Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan, who takes on material that differs from the spectacular nature of his history in musical theatre. “With a minimal set, no light changes, and no miming, it’s nice to challenge yourself as a director to find different ways to convey the story without being dependent on the usual things you normally use as devices,” says Pamintuan, who is excited to introduce Filipino audiences to Duncan Macmillan’s works. Take a deep breath between two lungs, as M and W quibble and quarrel in one unbroken conversation for ninety breathless minutes ...
