After The Wedding, the drama begins. Movie Review

Image
You're about to receive a big money for a cause your managing, but you need to fly around the globe to get it, and to your surprise, your attending the wedding of your daughter and meeting the man you love before, that you’ve never seen for many long years. That’s how the plot for this movie After the Wedding, a remake or the Hollywood version of Danish movie in 2006 of the same title, the 2019 version change the characters of two leading man to ladies that center the story, still they maintain the India orphanage as the starting of the film. Director Bart Freundlich version of the film is melodramatic, weepy for instance, but all praises for him for bringing out the best both for Julianne Moore especially Michelle William, who give subdued acting, from her looks to all the nuances, you could feel her character resonates from the silver screen. One distracts me is the opening scene where Williams character is seen doing yoga surrounded by Indian kids, that both...

Love for romance and love for environment. A Lakbay2Love Film Review.

Image
Lakbay2Love official poster. Lakbay2Love is a film about beauty, no doubt. The sceneries shown in Lakbay2Love by Erasto Films are all worthy to be shown onscreen. Eye candy with a breathtaking feeling, would make you wish that you could explore those mountains, hills through biking. This is the third offering by the award-winning filmmaker Ellen Ongkeko Marfill, following Pusang Gala and Boses. Lakbay2Love stars Solenn Heussaff and Dennis Trillo. Solenn plays Lianne, a videographer who features forester Jay-R (Trillo) who advocates biking for healthier environment.  Lianne is recovering from heartbreak over Macky (Kit Thompson) who happens to be a friend of Jay-R. Their fates crossover.  But the film does not create so much of a love triangle feel. One very good thing about Lakbay2Love is the details of its characters. The research was well analyzed and given justice through their dialogues. You can feel that it is not just about biking. It also points out some ne...

FILM REVIEW: BAMBANTI

Image
RATING: 4/5 By Trixie Dauz Contributor             Bambanti, when translated in English, means scarecrow. It is also a festival in Isabela province where the film is set, a festival coupled with dancing and a colorful façade. A scarecrow scares birds based on its outside appearance, with the birds thinking that it’s some kind of monster, thus preventing them from getting to the harvest. It is the perfect metaphor for the story of this film about making judgements based on outside appearances.               The premise of the film is simple. A dirt-poor mother and her boy who have been doing chores for their relatives (in-laws to be precise) as a means of earning money were in the wrong place at the wrong time. About 20-30 minutes into the film, a golden watch disappears, accusations are hurled, and the boy, a known prankster, was highly suspected to be th...

FILM REVIEW: MAGKAKABAUNG

Image
VERDICT: 4/5  By TRIXIE DAUZ Contributor All is fair in love and war, but not all is fair when it comes to illnesses and death. If you think Magkakabaung  is a film just revolving around the irony of a coffinmaker who eventually ends up building a plywood coffin for his daughter because he can’t afford to buy a decent coffin, then think again. Don’t be fooled by the trailer. It is more than just that. In Magkakabaung, the third feature length film by   Jason Laxamana , the politico-economic aspect of passing away is discussed. Though the film is slow-paced, it is meditative and we are not peppered with didacticism. We are instead led by hand to follow   Randy (Allen Dizon) , the protagonist who’s an impoverished coffinmaker in Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, as he journeys through his everyday life until that fateful day when he administers medicine to his daughter   Angeline (Dizon’s real-life daughter)   and accidentally kills her because of his ignor...
