Manila notes is a Filipino adaptation of Tokyo notes written by A Japanese playwright and director Oriza Hirata. It was adapted by our very own Rudy Vera and was directed by Tokyo notes writer himself. The story happened in the future, around 2043. There’s a war happening in Europe and in order to protect and preserved the collection of Vermeer, the paintings was relocated to several countries in Asia. Inside the receiving area or lobby of the museum, family members, lovers, friend and other kind of relation meet to discuss life, mainly about taking care of parents, family / marital problems, inheritance business and plans in life. The play depicts the regular day to day living of Filipinos. The stage really shows a modern design of a museum lobby, the coach are color blue, yellow, and red that looks like a Philippine flag color to me. ANG PAG-UUSIG, its a Jerry Respeto's translation of Arthur Miller's “THE CRUCIBLE”. Its about the trial of several people in the neighborhood who are being accused of having seen or enter into an agreement with the bad spirit. The story goes as Abigail Williams and her friends with Tituba, who happens to know witchcraft was seen by Rev Parris dancing in the forest while calling the spirits that Rev Parris believed to be the reason why his daughter got ill. As the story builds up, the real reason of the problem is for Abigail Williams to get revenge and oust Mrs Proctor by accusing her of being a witch because she believes that she can continue her relationship with John Proctor. Mr. Proctor wants to clear his wife’s name and save her, she convince his house maid Mary Warren to testify against Abigail Williams. However, Abigail Williams with her friends are so strong in pretending that they are seeing things and that they are being influenced by demons or Bad spirits...

The Tick Tick Boom in your life. A review.

Image
The newest offering of 9 Works Theatrical is one must see this October, not because it is the first time in Philippine Stage, but this play showcases three great theater actors of this season that will evolve your inner thoughts, on why is life like that, the why and the what life can offer versus the things we love to do over the things we have to do in order to survive. Tick Tick Boom obviously tell the struggling years of Musical genius Jonathan Larson, yes the man behind Rent The Musical, and composers of my all-time favorite song “Seasons Of Love”, it’s a monologue on how Jonathan narrate his passion in writing a play, creating songs, and his personal love life and his true best friend. Believe me, the music are all awesome, good to be free and really compelling to the point you’ll ask yourself, do I pass this stage of my life, how did I overcome it, and did I have fun?   What good thing about it, you’ll go out of theater happy and probably humming one of its...
