Tiya Ising’s, the history on food.

Image
For millennials in Palawan, Lola Itang is a classic restaurant that has witnessed many important occasions. It was mostly the venue for some press conferences of notable national and local officials. Sadly, it needed to fold down to give way for the bed and breakfast theme of its pension house. Good thing, Tiya Ising’s is born to continue the legacy of Lola Itang in providing Filipino comfort foods not only for Palawenyos, but for those who visit the City. “Just last November (2015) we open it. Another concept, still Filipino foods pero may touch of history in its interior. It’s all about old Puerto, everything na makikita nyo na pictures are historical places na yung iba kasama pa sa mga tours.” Katrina Austria, Owner and Manager of Tiya Ising’s explained. The 40-seater restaurant located in Roxas Street beside the former Lola Itang Resto, is open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 11am to 9pm. Menu is almost the same with Lola Itang. They are famous for its Kare-Kare, A...

Edison, The guides of Fireflies.

Image
The Enthusiastic Edison Dalanon. I heard mixed feedback about firefly-watching tour conducted in Puerto Princesa City in the past. Some say there are no fireflies to see, some say the food they serve is great. Then finally, as I explore my beloved city this summer of 2016, I had the chance of experiencing this new attraction at night. With the assistance from the City Tourism Office, through my former colleague Michie Hitosis and other nine bloggers from Manila, we witnessed right before our eyes this amazing fireflies-watching tour in Sicsican River. We were late due to some miscommunication but our friendly tour guide Edison Dalanon cheerfully welcomed us on board on their floating resto at the Baybay. This is the place where I grew up when it was known as Sea Plane Base 1 and 2. There was a lady singer serenading us while cruising the Puerto Bay and enjoying the sumptuous meals they prepare. It’s an eat-all-you-can drama with the view from the bay.  As soon as ...

Image
The Cradle of Philippine Civilization (Photo by Christian Aligo) For nearly two million years, humans have inhabited the tropical islands of Southeast Asia. Their fossil remains are among the earliest discoveries ever made in prehistory. The places where they once lived and the objects that they left behind hold clues to their everyday life, their relationship with the environment, and their beliefs. Today, this rich legacy is situated in an increasingly globalized and rapidly-developing Southeast Asia, and its stakeholders are faced with the challenges of the modern world. Nevertheless, its importance for both science and heritage calls for it to be treasured, managed, and protected. It is within this context that the current exhibit, Legacy of the Islands, is being held at Palawan Heritage Center (Legislative Bldg, Palawan Provincial Capitol, Puerto Princesa City) The exhibit opens last May 30, 2016. Ribbon Cutting. The fornal opening of Legacy Exhibit. Envisioned a...
